It's Smoothie Time!

It’s smoothing season!  This is the best time of the year for making healthy and slimming summertime smoothies.  There is so much fresh food to choose from!  Everything from fresh blueberries, strawberries, and peaches to fresh spinach, tomatoes and cucumbers!

A group of 8 of us recently completed the 21-Day Purification program.  On that program, you drink 2-3 smoothies every day using SP Complete Protein drink from Standard Process. Everyone completed the program and everyone lost weight and did amazingly well.  I am so proud of how well everyone did.  It' is not an easy program, at least at the beginning, but it is a great way to reset your eating habits and shift gears. Plus, you get a TON of health benefits, which is the main reason we do it!

Like many of you, I have drank smoothies for many years.  I enjoy them throughout the year but summer is the best time to enjoy smoothies everyday.  All the fresh fruit and produce make for powerful, nutritionally dense smoothies.  Of course you want to add a protein powder to keep you fueled through a busy day.  Try to get a minimum of 10-25 grams of protein in each smoothie.  More if you do strenuous physical activity or you lift weights and are trying to build muscle.  I recommend SP Complete from Standard Process.  It has 10 grams of protein/serving which meets the average needs of most people. You can supplement the SP Complete with additional straight protein powder if you want more protiein.  I always add 2 scoops of Whey Pro Complete which adds another 15 grams of protein.  You can read more about SP Complete and Whey Pro Complete below.

Smoothies are also a wonderful way to support your bodies’ natural detoxification process (especially when using SP Complete).  The fresh fruit and produce provide essential nutrition for the liver, gall bladder, and bowel.  Make sure you add a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.   Eat blueberries, strawberries, peaches, blackberries, raspberries for your fruit smoothies and use spinach, salad greens, avocado, cucumber and even a little red beet (fresh, raw) for your vegi smoothies.  We have recipes in the office but it can be fun to experiment and make up your own.  Use coconut milk or coconut water for your fruit smoothies and organic tomato juice for your vegi.  Be cautious with almond milk.  It may cause gastric issues for some people, especially drinking it every day.  The same with oat milk.  I recommend you pass on both almond and oat milks.  And of course, no soy milk.  And make sure whatever protein powder you use is SOY FREE!  At this point, I recommend everyone avoid soy for general health practice.

I decided to run a special on all our protein drinks from now through the 4th of July.  During that time, you can purchase any variety of SP Complete, Whey Pro Complete or Detox Balance for 15% off the regular price.  That includes the non-dairy and vegan options as well.  This discounted price is good only on orders placed in the office. Contact the office if you have any questions.  You can call us at 501-842-1004.

In closing, make sure to take advantage of the fresh foods during the summer and eat what is in season.  A principle of healthy eating is to eat locally and to eat what is in season.  The tomatoes grown in our hometown are closer to what we need nutritionally than tomatoes grown in California or Mexico.  Eat as much fresh fruit and produce as you can this summer season and drink your smoothies for the health of it!
